Wayne H. Johnson Sr., 59, of Johnson Rd. passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Utica.
Wayne was born on June 27, 1954 in Ilion, he was the son of the late Herbert and Beulah (Treen) Johnson; he was a graduate of Frankfort-Schuyler Schools and attended Morrisville Ag & Tech.
On May 6, 1978 he married the former Joanne Ernst in Schuyler.
Wayne loved being a farmer and was active in the American Guernsey Breeders, Dairy Farmers of America, The Farm Bureau.
He enjoyed showing and competition, a trait he passed on to his children and grandchildren, having competed at the Herkimer Co. Fair for 51 years. Wayne also loved making Maple Syrup with his brother Al. He was also active in the Schuyler VFD and loved hunting and bowling, having bowled two 300 games last year. In his younger years he played softball.
Wayne is survived by his wife Joanne; two sons Alexis and his wife Rachael of Rushville and Wayne Jr. and his Fiance Laura Harding of Frankfort, a daughter Megan and her fiance Michael Faubert of Frankfort; a brother Alan and his wife Lisa of Frankfort; a sister Donna and her husband Mark Crews of Little Falls; his mother in law Barbara Ernst; brother in law Michael Ernst of Niskayuna.
His grandchildren; Gabriel, Colton, Ella and Jocelyn Johnson, Gavin Case and Vincent Faubert.
Nieces and nephews; Chris and Gregg Ernst; Tony and Jodie Crews and their children Brianna, Maverick, Levi and Kelly, Alicia and Bill Pocyntyluk and Allison Johnson. His cousins Marie and Charlie Grose and their children ,Lauren Johnson and family and David Johnson and family.
He is predeceased by his father in law Walter Ernst and sister in law Mary Ernst and his Uncle Locklin Johnson.
Wayne's family would like to give a special thank you to our Schuyler extended families' you were all near and dear to his heart. We want to especially thank Cathie and Kevin Ricci, Jim and Sue Ludwig, Bob and Robin Simmons, Bill and Joe Salamone, Steve Tripple, Harry Robbins, Tom Gear, Marie and Charlie and many others who have been so very helpful. We would not have been able to get through these last few days without your help on the farm.
Also a special thank you to the Schuyler fire dept, John Scholl and the ambulance crew. Also, Cathy Knapp and the rest of the staff at St. Elizabeth's ER for their kindness, support and compassion.
Funeral services for Wayne will be held on Saturday December 14, 2013 at 2pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion with Chaplin Ethan Geary officiating, interment will follow in the East Schuyler Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11am until the time of the service.
Donations in Wayne's memory may be made to either the Schuyler Ambulance or the Herkimer County Humane Society; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
