Ann Waldron Burton, 84, of 521 S. Litchfield St. passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 quietly in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Ann was born March 11, 1931 to Genevieve and James Waldron. She attended school in Frankfort along with her eight brothers and sisters, Ann was united in marriage with Robert F. Burton in July of 1949, Robert passed away on February 7, 2003.
Ann continued her education earning a degree in travel and tourism from Herkimer County Community College in 1977. She began her career as a travel agent at Upstate Travel in Utica upon graduation.
She later worked as a librarian at the Frankfort Public Library and was a volunteer at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort.
Her Irish heritage was a source of great pride and passing those traditions on to her family was important to her.
Mom's greatest joy in life was large family gatherings.
Planning for these events could go on for weeks.
Family reunions and the March birthday parties were her favorites. She was able to fulfill her desire to travel the world. Of her many adventures swimming on the beaches of Hawaii, kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland and having an audience with Pope John Paul II in Rome, Italy were her highlights.
Watching her raspberries grow and tasting the first of the harvest also gave her great joy. One of her raspberry pies was a little taste of heaven! Her sweet tooth was infamous and many a ride ended with a stop at her favorite ice cream shop to get a CWA ice cream cone. No Christmas holiday would be complete without her special potatoes on the menu. Her summer trips to Tanglewood with her brother John and sisters were a time she treasured.
Moms love of simple pleasures leave us with many fond memories.
Testing her knowledge nightly on Jeopardy and challenging anyone who would play her to a game of Chinese Checkers (holding her rank as all time champ) and reading a good book gave her hours of contentment. She is survived by her five children David and Pamela Burton of Hammond, N.Y., Sheila Burton of Fairhaven, NY, Nancy and Michael Sparrin of Ilion, NY, Jeanne Faliveno of Cherry Valley, N.Y. and Robert J. Burton of Frankfort, a brother the Rev. John Waldron of Albany, NY, and all the beloved thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, and many nieces, and nephews.
Ann was pre deceased by her great grandson Bryson in 2013.
