Barbara Ames 'Barb' Szczesniak

Barbara Ames Szczesniak, 74, went home to her heavenly father to join her husband, best friend and life partner Chet on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. She was born in Cedarville, N. Y. to the late Walter D. and Iona Zoller Ames.
Barbara lived at 444 Tulip Dr., Ilion and previously lived in Schuyler. She was educated in local schools and in the early 70's she went to BOCES to get her Certified Nurses Aid certification. After receiving her diploma she worked for a short time at the Masonic Home then went to the Herkimer County Home for the Aged (Country Manor) where she worked for seventeen years until she injured her back and could not return to work. Barb enjoyed crocheting, crafts, ceramics but most of all loving her children and grandchildren.
Barb leaves behind her beloved children: daughter Cynthia Jones, son Harold (Joe) Coffin, daughter Mary (Molly) and David Roussin, son Donald Coffin, Debra and Shawn Brown, son Chester (Jay) and Jenika Szczesniak, her step son Bruce and Christine Szczesniak. She also leaves several grandchildren: Samantha, and Corey Jones; Joseph and Justin Coffin; Theresa and Marshall Cargill, Tiana Roussin and Tia Fredrick; Nikki James, Mark, Matthew, and Joshua Weir; Kurtis, Johnathan, twins Madison and Caitryn Szczesniak, Brenden Prenderville; Matthew, Steve and Twins Kayla and Courtney Szczesniak and 13 great grandchildren. Barb also leaves 2 brothers Walter (Skip) and Bev Ames; Donald and Gloria Ames, 2 sisters Sandra Richards, and Mary and Richard Lapoint and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also her Sister in Christ Betty Nicotera, several close friends Ray and Shirley Lacanio and their family, Bob Forbes, Christine Cosizer and her family and others too numerous to mention but you know who you are. Barb was predeceased by her beloved husband Chet, her parents, an infant son, a son Wayne, brother and sister in law Ferd and Winne Ames, Skip and Billy Boy, a brother in law Robert Richards, 2 cousins Joyce and Charles (Chick) Scaparo, and a cousin in law Les Schliby.
In keeping with Barb's wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral, arrangements are with the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion. Friends are asked to consider memorials to St. Jude's, the Shriners Hospital, Boys Town or any American Indian Charity.
