Benjamin I. Soper, 40 of Park City KY, passed away on Friday January 8, 2016 in Chicago IL, following a five month battle with cancer.
Ben was born on October 11, 1975 in Herkimer, he was the son of Robert I. and Dianne L. Soper, and he was a graduate of Mt. Markham School as well as HCCC, where he studied environmental science.
Ben was a gentle soul with a free spirit who loved to travel and exploring the outdoors, having worked for 10 years on a horse ranch in Jackson Hole, WY, a job he loved.
While there he became a skilled leather worker, working on custom saddles. He was also an avid gun collector and enjoyed shooting sports, having worked as a gun shop manager in Baker City, OR. Most recently he worked at Mammoth Cave National Park in KY, where he also owned a small cattle farm with his father.
Ben is survived by his loving mother Dianne Soper of Herkimer; his father Robert Soper and his wife Donna of KY; brothers Darren and his wife Crystal and their children Astrid, Magnus and Ingrid and Duane and his daughter Destiny all of Long Island; sister Robin and her husband Monte Loomis and their children Katherine and William (Day) of Millers Mills.
He also leaves his devoted canine companion of 13 years, Dog.
Funeral services for Ben will be held on Friday January 15, 2016 at 7pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion, Caroline McPeak-Fletcher CFC will officiate.
Friends may call on Friday January 15, 2015 from 4pm until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the spring at Millers Mills Cemetery in Millers Mills, NY.
