Betty Eggleston of Ilion, New York, passed away on Friday, July 14 at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. She was 80 years old.
Born December 20, 1936, a daughter of Renwick and Frances Brown Thomas, Betty was a lifelong resident of Division Street in Ilion. She attended local schools. In 1954 she married Donald E. Eggleston, embarking together on a happy family adventure that lasted their lifetime. Betty and Don raised three children: Carol, Douglas, and Jacquie.
Blessed with a close circle of friends, Bet was always ready to pour a cup of coffee at the kitchen table or the picnic table when neighbors, friends, and family stopped to visit.
She enjoyed camping trips and neighborhood suppers, and looked forward to holidays with all the Eggleston extended family. Her favorite spot was 'R' Paradise in the backyard of the family home on Division Street.
Betty was a caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Eggleston, in Jacksonville, FL; her son Douglas Eggleston (and Doug's wife, Christine) in Sackets Harbor, NY; and her youngest daughter Jacqueline Monohan (and Jacquie's husband, Rick) in Ilion, as well as grandchildren Brian, Ashley, and James; Adrian and Lauren; and Erica, Richie, and Kali. Her beloved great-grandchildren are Gavin, Cole, and Dodge, and Joey, Paige, Olivia, and Sophia. Bet is also survived by her sister, Arlene Thomas Fillhart, of Adams, NY, and her cousins on the Thomas side who reside in the Rodman and Adams area. Betty's husband Donald preceded her in death, passing away in 2011.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Whiter/Hendrix Funeral Home, Ilion. No calling hours are scheduled. There will be a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Whiter/Hendrix Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Ilion.
