Carl F. Couchman, 92 of Mohawk, passed away on Sunday February 28, 2016 at the Abraham House in Utica, with his loving family by his side.
Carl was born on January 15, 1924 in Ilion, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Marie (Keno) Couchman.
He was a graduate of Ilion schools and in 1943 he joined the Army Air Corp serving with the 489th Bomb Squadron, 57th Bomb Wing, as a tail gunner on a B-25, flying over 70 missions.
On June 28, 1947 he married the former Betty Crist in Richfield Springs, NY.
Carl worked at Univac, MDS and Remington Arms.
He was a life member of the Herkimer VFW and the Mohawk American Legion.
He also was a member of the 57th Bomb Wing and attended several reunions.
Carl is survived by his wife Betty; 6 sons Mark A. and his wife Sarah of Binghamton, Dean E. and his wife Karen of Middleville, Tedd R. and his wife Cindy of Baldwinsville, Brett A. and his wife Melody of Herkimer and Joel D. and his wife Mary of Mohawk; a daughter Dawn O'Day of Canastota and a daughter in law Debbie and her husband Dave Bartlett of Mohawk; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son Scott, 3 brothers and a sister.
Funeral service for Carl will be held on Thursday March 3, 2016 at 5pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. with
officiating, interment will be in the Dennison Corners Cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call on Thursday from 3pm until the time of the funeral.
