Dorothy Madeline Ake

Ilion - Dorothy M. Drake, 93, Ilion, NY, passed away November 10, 2021.
Dorothy was born in Whitney Point, NY on May 23, 1928 to the late Raymond W. Leet and Jessie (Lee) Leet. Dorothy is predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Roger T. Drake. They moved to the Cedarville area where they resided for 30 years. Dorothy worked at Rosen and Co. for several years and later retired after 17 years as a bookkeeper at the Herkimer Cheese Co. in Ilion. She was a member of the People's Undenominational Church in Cedarville. Dorothy enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Bingo, cards, board games, the Yankee's and working in her flower gardens. She also enjoyed her many friends and bus trips with the Schuyler Seniors.
Her life was devoted to her family of six children, 22 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by Roger Jr. (Kim Aney), Mike (Mary Chapman), Yvonne (Bruce) Kempenny, Darlene (Kenneth) Kotary, Tina Drake and Wendy Grosse.
Also surviving Dorothy are several nieces, nephews, extended family, and a special sister-in-law, Shirley Drake-Byers, (4 days senior) and lifelong friend since 7th grade.
Dorothy was predeceased by a sister, Pearl (Don) Lacey, three brothers, Earl (Alice) Leet, Harold (Irma) Leet, and Floyd Leet. Also deceased, a son-in-law, Michael Grosse, a special niece, Janet (Bob) Reinhart and great niece, Cheryl McElwain.
Dorothy will be cremated and laid to rest in Cedarville, NY. In keeping with Dorothy's wishes, there will be no public services. Arrangements are with the Whiter- Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion, NY. A private burial will be in the spring of 2022.
Friends are asked to consider memorials to the Herkimer County Humane Society in Mohawk, NY, the Abraham House in Utica, NY, or other cancer, heart or Veteran's Funds.
