Dorothy L. Smith, 86 of State Route 5 in Schuyler passed away on Tuesday May 20, 2014 at home, with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born on January 14, 1928 in Schuyler, the daughter of the late Varney and Anna (Kinsinger) Lindsay.
She was a graduate of Frankfort Schools and on August 31, 1947 she married Charles Smith in Frankfort, he passed away on May 9, 1997.
Dorothy worked several places throughout her life; most recently Alegro Shoes and she retired from Mohawk Valley Nursing Home.
Dorothy enjoyed her family and her dogs and was known as "Grandma Dorothy" to the girls.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Jean and her good friends Grace and Janice; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is pre deceased by her sons Larry and William as well as he companion Edwin "Red" Bowen.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at 11:30am.
The service will take place in the Chapel at Mt. Oliviet Cemetery in Frankfort.
In keeping with Dorothy's wishes there are no calling hours; friends are asked to consider memorial donation to either HOSPICE or the Herkimer County Humane Society, envelopes will be available at the service or at Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion.
