Eleanor S. Currie, 88, of Norwich, formerly of Mohawk, passed away on Monday December 4, 2017 at home with her loving family by her side.
Eleanor was born on May 2, 1929 in Ft. Herkimer, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Martha (Lowell) Shaver.
She was a 1948 graduate of Mohawk Schools and was valedictorian of her class.
Eleanor worked as a secretary in the Mohawk Central School; first in the business office and retiring after 30 years as the Superintendents secretary.
On July 4, 1953 Eleanor was united in marriage to Paul Currie Sr.
Paul passed away in October of 2000.
Eleanor enjoyed many hobbies including: crocheting, sewing, baking and gardening.
She had a great love for nature and country music.
Eleanor quietly taught by example and will be remembered as a loving and supportive wife and mother, always putting her family first.
Eleanor is survived by her son Paul and his wife Antoinetta Currie of Norwich; her daughter Colleen Currie and her companion Dan Maher of Churchville, NY; a special niece Marilyn and her husband Robert Kozakowski of Mohawk; two brothers, Theodore Shaver of Mohawk and John and his wife Anita Shaver of Herkimer.
She also leaves several nieces, nephews and close friends and neighbors.
Funeral services for Eleanor will be held on Saturday December 9, 2017 at 11am at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion.
Rev David Spiegel will officiate, interment will follow in the Mohawk Cemetery.
Friends and family may call on Friday December 8, 2017 from 3-5 pm at the funeral home and are asked to please consider memorial donations to; Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815.
