Erminia M. "Mina" Hendrix, 97, of Ilion passed away on Friday June 10, 2016 at Sitrin Healthcare in New Hartford.
Mina was born on June 26, 1918 in Ilion, the daughter of the late Roscoe and Anna (Wenner) Whiter.
She was a graduate of Ilion Schools.
On August 3, 1940 she married Howard L. Hendrix, he passed away on December 28, 1967.
Mina owned and operated the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home where she worked with her husband, son Len, and later her grandson Scott.
She was a licensed funeral director for 70 years.
Mina was the third generation of her family to operate the business.
She retired several years ago.
Mina was the most senior member of the Morning Star Methodist Church in Ilion where she was very active while she was able, she was a member of O.E.S. Valley Chapter #82 and the Order of The Amaranth. She enjoyed her family and spent many happy hours with all four generations.
Mina is survived by two sons; Len and his wife, Sandy of Ilion and Brian and his wife, Leslie of Merrick, NY; a daughter in law, Mary Jean of Hamburg, NY; six grandchildren; Scott and his wife, Geri, Lynne and her husband, Rich Roberts both of Ilion, Jon and his wife, Amanda of West Seneca, NY, Ashley Hendrix and her Fianc, Chris Keane, Gretchen and her husband, David Carbone all of Buffalo, Rachel Hendrix and her fianc, Alex Mazzola of Charlotte, NC and Allison Hendrix of Merrick NY. Seven great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A sister, Verna Samson of Denver CO.
She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Mina is predeceased by a son, Wayne and a sister, Leona Whiter.
Funeral services for Mina will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego St. in Ilion, Rev. Robert Wollaber will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion.
Friends may call on Monday, June 13 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to the Mohawk Homestead Residents Fund and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
