Ethel J. Gifford, 90, passed away Thursday January 12, 2017 at the Little Falls Hospital. She was born August 9, 1926 in the Town of Herkimer, the daughter of the late Phylo and Estella Strait Walts and received her education in Herkimer. On October 25, 1945, she was united in marriage with Gordon Gifford in the Herkimer Methodist Church parsonage, he passed away on January 24, 2004.
Ethel is survived by her 2 daughters and 4 sons: Joan [Francis] Crandall of Ilion, Wayne [Daureen] Gifford of W. Winfield, Larry Gifford of Ilion, Nancy Riesel [partner Ann Irion] of Florida, Randy [Kim] Gifford of W. Winfield and Scott Gifford [Anita Vincent] of Little Falls; her brother Ronald (Ronny) Walts of N. Carolina and her sister Genevieve (Jennie) Herron of Paines Hollow, sister in law Edna Walts of Fort Plain, and brother in law Derwood [Betsy Gifford] of W. Winfield;
her 23 grandchildren: Brian [Marissa] Crandall, Cheryl Crandall, Amy [Tim] Brien;
Patience [Bruce] Hutchison, Heidi Gifford, Derrick Gifford, Joey Judson, Brad [Kristen] Judson, Teela [Angel] Wells, Nathaniel Gifford, Billy Gifford, Kayla Gifford, Myla Gifford, Aliandra Gifford; Valeri Gifford, Victoria Gifford; Tricia [Eddy] Cartwright, Terry [Sara] Riesel, Shawn Bernier; Jason Gifford, Samantha Gifford; Kaylene Gifford, Briana Gifford; predeceased by Tyquan Gifford;
her 23 Great-grandchildren: Shayna, Rylee and Jayden Crandall, Jilliana Rosa, Pacey and Halana Brien;
Kelly, Kimberly and Christopher Hutchison, Ryan, Madison and Gianna Judson; Kaden and Daxton Wells; Leanne Sajdzikowski and Troy Gifford; Austin and Joseph Cartwright, Kiah and Mitch Riesel; James Gifford; Kayden and Braelynn Gifford, and Ariana Taylor as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 5:00PM from the Whiter- Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion with Pastor David Tosi officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Little Falls in the spring. Friends are asked to call from 3:00PM until the time of the service Friday.
Ethel's family would like to thank the staff at Little Falls Hospital for the professional care she received and the compassionate attention they received.
