Frankfort- Mrs. Freida C. Newell, 82, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Freida was born in Methuen, MA on August 19, 1941, the daughter of the late Stephen and Josephine Coco Catalano. She was married to John Newell in New York Mills on August 4, 1976. She was employed as a Seamstress with Utica Duxbak for many years. Freida was a member of the American Legion Post #920 Auxiliary in Ilion. Because of her great love for God, she will be lovingly remembered as the wisdom of the family. She was a beautiful soul who was always kind and understanding. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and reading her Bible.
Freida is survived by her beloved husband, John Newell of Frankfort; her daughters, Jennifer Newell-Blaise of Florida and her deceased husband Brian Blaise, Sheila Messina of Ilion, Constance Messina of Windham, NH, her son Donald Messina and his wife Kellie of Florida and her deceased son Stephen Messina of Methuen,Mass.
Her beloved grandchildren include Cara Messina and her daughter Summer Whaley, Gunner Blaise and his son Kian, Cody Messina, Joshua Olivero, Julie Santiago, Constance Santiago, Jorge and Seaklong Santiago-Yin, Jason and Lauren Messina, Stephanie Messina, Nicole Messina, Marissa Messina, Faith Messina, Matthew Messina, Kayla Messina, Timothy Messina and Chelsea Messina;Freida's siblings include her deceased brother Sebastian Catalano of Methuen,MA, Angie and her husband Michael Alekel of Methuen, MA, Carmelina Cobbett of Bradford, MA, Stephen Catalano and his wife Luda of Lake Worth, FL, Rose Andersen of Green Acres, Florida, Mary Ann and her husband Michael Goes of Pelham, NH and Anthony Catalano and his wife Nancy of Deerfield, NH and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 4:00 pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. in Ilion, with Father Paul Catena, officiating. Calling hours will take place from 1:00 pm until the time of services in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home. Members of the American Legion Post #920 Auxiliary will meet at 3:45 pm for a prayer service. Freida will be laid to rest in the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11:00 am.
