Gerald J. Hill, 83, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Mohawk Valley Health Care.
Jerry was born on May 12, 1934 in Hancock, Minn. The son of the late Gerald M. and Emma Nelson Hill. He attended local schools in Minnesota and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech. University. Jerry served in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and on March 9, 1957 he was united in marriage with Verla Logan in Spokane, WA.
Jerry was employed with Remington Arms in Ilion retiring on March 11, 1992. He was an active member of The Morning Star Methodist Church having served in offices of Chair of the Church Council, Church Treasurer, and Lay Leader. He also over the years was active with the Foot Hill Council of The Girl Scouts serving on their Board of Directors and was past President of The West Hill P.T.A. He was also a member of the Michigan Tech. Alumni Association.
He is survived by his wife Verla, a daughter Rebecca DeGroat of Oneida, his sister Suzanne Rosa of Minneapolis and the ultimate joy of his life his three grandchildren, Stephanie DeGroat (and Justin), Brooke DeGroat Fabris (and Alex) and Michael Czupryna He was pre deceased by his daughter Kirsten Czupryna.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center for their compassion and attentiveness to Jerry and his family, God bless you all.
A memorial service will be held Saturday February 10, 2018 at 11 am at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating, with a spring interment in the Mohawk Cemetery Annex. Friends may call from 4-6 PM Friday, February 9, 2018 at the funeral home
In lieu of flowers friends are asked to consider memorials to Morning Star Methodist Church, 36 Second St., Ilion 13357 in Memory of Jerry.
