Geraldine R. "Gerry" Saxe- Schaffer, 78, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at home with her family by her side. She was born February 10, 1939 in Cooperstown the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Russell Saxe.
Gerry was educated locally and attended Buffalo State where she received her LPN Degree and MVCC where she received her RN. She and her husband Rodney shared 52 years of happiness. Gerry had been employed at the Masonic Home and then with N.Y.S. Mental Health both locally and in Syracuse until her retirement 14 years ago.
Gerry is survived by her husband Rodney, her children and their spouses Geraldine and Jason Ortiz of Utica, Rodney and Melinda of Ilion, Russell and Catherine of Newport, Veronica Talerico
Of Orange City, FL., Sue Anne and her significant other Charles Van Doren of Mohawk and Rosa Leah of Ilion, a brother Bill and his wife Barbara of Cairo, NY ad many grand and great grandchildren.
In keeping with Gerry's wishes there will be a Celebration of Life 5 PM Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Herkimer V.F.W for friends and family. Arrangements are with the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St., Ilion..
Gerry's family would like to thank Dr. Din and his staff along with Dr. Storinelli and Hospice for all the care, concern and friendship throughout her illness.
