Gertrude "Trudy" Tangorra 71 of 73 W. Rand Street Ilion, passed away on Sunday December 14, 2014 at Mohawk Valley Health Care in Ilion.
Trudy was born on May 8, 1943 in Ilion NY the daughter of the late Willis and Catherine Williams Hitchcock. She was a 1961 graduate of Ilion High School, and graduated from Herkimer County Community College in 1988 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. Trudy was employed with the Ilion Housing Authority as a Housing Assistance Representative, retiring in 2005.
On July 21, 1990 she was united in marriage with Alexander Tangorra.
Trudy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ilion, member and past treasurer of the American Morgan Horse Association. She loved spending time with her family, doing crossword puzzles and reading.
Trudy leaves behind her daughters Denise Scialdo and her companion Jim Jurgelewicz of Marlton, NJ, and Deborah Haggerty and her husband David of Ilion, two sisters and a brother in law Elisabeth
"Chic" and Babe Del Grego, of Ilion, Barbara Noffer of Ballston Spa, NY, two brothers and a sister in law
Willis Hitchcock of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Jerry and Debbie Hitchcock of Gainesville, Ga, a sister in law Irene Hitchcock and a son in law Keith Scialdo, her grandchildren Teresa Mears, Shannon Haggerty, Samantha Scialdo, and Sarah Scialdo, great grandchildren Mason, Gabriel, Ayden, and Eli , two special nephews Lawrence Del Grego and Craig Gay and also several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Trudy was predeceased by her husband Alex, two brothers Douglas and Robert Hitchcock, her sister Jeanette Ridgeway, and her sister in law Marion Hitchcock.
A special thank you for their kindness and caring go to Dr. Brehaut, Susan Griffing, N.P., Michelle, RN and the E.M.T's from the Ilion Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the Ilion Ambulance Fund.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral service for Trudy to be held on Thursday December 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego Street Ilion, NY 13357 with Rev. Robert Umidi officiating. Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Friends may call from Noon until the time of the service on Thursday.
