Gloria Smaldone, 69, of 514 4th Ave. Ext. Frankfort, NY went to be with the Lord with her loving family by her side on Thursday February 20, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.
Gloria was born on July 4, 1944 in Richfield Springs, NY the daughter of the late Leo and May (Miller) Griffin, and was educated in the Ilion Central Schools District.
On July 21, 1960 Gloria was united in marriage to Anthony Smaldone Jr. in the Parsonage of the North Columbia Church, they shared a loving marriage for 53 years.
Gloria was foremost a homemaker for her family and in her spare time she was employed as a seasonal worker with the Herkimer County Cheese for several years.
Gloria was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
She also enjoyed taking walks and shopping. She especially enjoyed bingo and playing cards with her sister Victoria and grandson Alex.
Gloria is survived by her husband Tony , two sons Steven of Forestport, and Barry of Utica, a daughter
and son in law Lisa and Chris Deyle
of Ilion; a daughter in law Janice Smaldone of Frankfort, her brothers and sisters in law Jim and Donna Carr of Gilbertsville, NY, Richard and Esther Griffin of Sacramento, CA, and Fred Griffin of Ilion; sisters and brothers in law Victoria and Tom Dineen of Schuyler, Vivian McGraw of Ilion, Mary Moore of Ilion, Dorothy Rowlands of Ilion, and Doris Griffin of Ill two grand children Alan Annuntto
and
Alex Smaldone and one great grandchild Aiden Annutto, also several nieces and nephews. Gloria is also survived by her best friend Janet Patterson. Gloria was predeceased by two brothers Ed Griffin (2007), Leo Griffin (2011) and a sister Pat Brownell (2012).
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Gloria to be held on Tuesday February 25, 2014 at 6 pm, at the funeral home, with Rev. Kathy Lee of the Folt's Home in Herkimer officiating.
Friends may call from 4to 6 pm Tuesday at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego Street, Ilion.
In lieu of flowers friends are asked to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society in Gloria's memory.
Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
