Grace Theresa Onorato DeRocco, 99 formerly of Ilion, passed away on Sunday March 24, 2013 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.
Grace was born on June 22, 1913 in Frankfort the daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary (Basile) Onorato. She was educated in Frankfort and was employed as a clerk with Grant's in Ilion for many years. On August 3, 1946 Grace married Alfonse F. DeRocco in Frankfort. He passed away on November 12, 1955.
Grace was a member of the Church of The Annunciation in Ilion; the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and traveled with The Frankfort "Young-at-Heart" Senior Citizen Club".
She is survived by her son Sam of Ilion; two daughters Mary Ann and her husband John Wallace of Providence RI and Carol and her husband Craig Gilker of Alpharetta, GA; a step son Fred and his wife Daisy of Jasper FL and two daughter in laws Regina and Susan both of Ilion. Grace also leaves three generations of grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Joseph as well as two brothers Nicholas and Dominick and six sisters, Catherine Kinney, Mamie and Margaret Onorato, Rose Cockett, Jane Tisi and Frances Stalcup.
A Mass of Christian burial, for Grace, will be celebrated on Tuesday April 2, 2013 at 10 am at the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion, Fr. Leo Potvin will officiate, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in the St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on Monday April 1, 2013 from 4-7pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Grace's name to Catholic Charities, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring staff that provided hands on care to Gracie and tolerated countless pinches from her over the years.
