Helen L. Jones, 93, passed away Friday October 25, 2013 at
Katherine Luther Residential Health Care in Clinton. Helen was born May 31, 1920 in Newport, the daughter of the late Earl and Mildred Irving Stroupe and was educated in Newport schools. On May 23 1942 she was united in marriage with Thomas Jones in Newport.
Helen was a member of the Ilion First Baptist Church and was active in church affairs also the Brownies and Girl Scouts. As a young girl she enjoyed playing basketball and later in life enjoyed bowling and golf, some of her other interests were knitting, crocheting and sewing.
Helen is survived by her husband Tom, a son and his wife Robert and Linda of Pahrump, NV.,
Two daughters and their husbands Barbara and Ed VanSickle of Verona and Charlotte and John Murphy of Balston Spa., five grandchildren, Charmaine, Dylan, Carissa, Denise and R. J., five Great Grandchildren Zach, Trevor, Nathan, Ben and Caiden, a sister Jean VanValkenburg of Herkimer and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Helen will be Tuesday October 29, 2013 at 12 noon from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion, with the Rev. Dr. Andrew Peloubet officiating, interment will follow in the Newport Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service.
Helen's family would like to take this time to thank the loving and caring staff at the Katherine
Luther Home Maple View Wing for all the kindness and compassion shown to them and Helen during her stay.
Friends are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Katherine Luther Residential Facillity, Clinton, NY.. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
