Howard W. Chappel (Chappell) 83 passed away on Monday May 21, 2012 in the Terrytown unit of the Masonic Home, Utica. Howard was born December 30, 1928 in Churubusco, NY the son of the late William and Stella LaClair Chappell, he received his education in the Schenectady School District.
Howard served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Prisoner of War.
He was married to the former Irene Peek.
Howard was employed as an overhead crane operator with the General Electric Co. in Schenectady
and Utica, he also enjoyed doing hardwood flooring thru out the area.
Howard was a member of the Whitestown Vets, the American Legion post in Whitesboro, and the V.F.W. post in North Utica.
Howard is survived by his children Howard and Diane of Cedarville, Michael and Mary of Frankfort, Steve of Wisconsin, Richard of Westmoreland, Joseph and Beverly of Oriskany, Jack of Utica, Clifford of Remsen, Sam of Whitesboro, Robert of Ilion, Linda and Jeff LaBarge of Verona, Anna and Wayne Smith of Madison, Gail and Joe Leuthauser of North Utica, Bonnie and Glen Griffith of Fayetteville, NC and William and Crystal of Sherrill; one brother William and Marge Chappel of Schenectady, two
sisters Gloria and Edwin Makowlec of Florida,
and Stella Collins of Florida. also several grandchildren,
great grand children
and
great great grand children, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Howard was predeceased by a son Robert and daughter Victoria and his brothers Clifford and Leonard.
Graveside funeral services at St. Mary's in Clinton with full military honors will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Fr. John P. Croghan officiating.
Following the service a celebration of Howard's life will be held at the New Hartford American Legion Post .
