Frankfort
John J. "Jack" Murray, 85, of Frankfort passed away on Thursday August 6, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care Hospital in New Hartford.
Jack was born on August 10, 1929 in St. Petersburg FL.
He was the son of the late John J. and Marjorie (Butts) Murray.
He was a 1948 graduate of Frankfort Schools. Prior to graduation he served in the Army stationed in Japan during the occupation.
On April 24, 1954 he married the former Fena Zito at St. Mary's Church in Frankfort.
Jack worked as a Team Chief of radar techs at Griffis Air Force Base in Rome.
He retired in 1985.
Jack was a member of Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Frankfort, the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus and the Ilion Elks Lodge.
Jack was an avid fisherman and gardener, but the one thing he enjoyed most of all was his camp on Brantingham Lake.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years Fena; a son John J. and his wife Kathleen of Hampton, VA; a daughter Jacklyn and her husband Matthias Gratzfeld of Albersweiler, Germany; a brother Ted and his wife Joanne Murray of Frankfort; two grandchildren John J. Ryan Murray and Sebastian Gratzfeld; nieces and nephews Lisa, Steven, Michael, Christopher, Mark, Diane and Adrienne.
He is predeceased by a son Terrance in 1973.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday August 11, 2015 at 10:30 am at Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Frankfort.
Fr. Paul Catena will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday August 10 from 5-7 pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion.
The Ilion Elks Lodge will conduct memorial services at 6:30 Monday at the funeral home.
