Joseph Kuba 89 formerly of 1860 State Route 51 Ilion, NY passed away Sunday October 18, 2009 at Folts Home Herkimer.
Joe was born March 8, 1920 in Victory Mills, NY the son of the late Jozef and Suzanna Svarna, and received his education in Herkimer Schools.
Joe served with the US Marines during WW2.
On September 7, 1946 he married the former Shirley Pett in Ilion NY , she passed away on November 10, 1996.
Joe was employed in the highway maintenance dept. with the New York State Thruway retiring in 1976.
Joe was a member of the North Columbia United Methodist Church , the Ilion Marine Corp League, Ilion American Legion Post 920, Middleville V.F.W
Post 7220, Guadalcanal
Veterans, Cedarville Fire Dept. since 1958 and The General Herkimer Boy Scouts Council since 1958.
Joe is survived by two daughters and sons in law Anne and Ronald Farrington of Ilion, Jean and
Temple Wilson of Winchester, Va, a sister Mary Lukas of Sparks, NV, a brother and sister in law Bob and Marge Pett of Ilion, his grandchildren Kenny Higgens, Paul Farrington, Judy Farrington, Eve Farrington-Yen, four great grandchildren Kenny Higgens Jr., Kayla Higgens, Tyler Yen and Elaine Yen , also 6 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son Paul Kuba.
Funeral Services for Mr. Kuba will be held on Thursday October 22, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego Street Ilion with Rev. Hans Drews officiating interment will follow in the Highland Rural Cemetery Jordanville with Militray Honors.
Friends may call Wednesday October 21, 2009 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
Friends are asked to consider memorials to the North Columbia United Methodist Church
Elizabethtown Road, Ilion NY 13357 or the Cedarville Ambulance Fund West Winfield, NY 13491 in Joe's memory.
