Juanita Burger

Ilion - Mrs. Juanita Burger, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on December 22, 2023 with her loving family by her side.
Juanita was born on October 2, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH to parents Pryse and Julia King Smith. She attended schools in both Cincinnati, OH and in Ilion, where she graduated with the class of 1947. She later went on to obtain her Associate's Degree from HCCC in 1974. She was married to William Burger on June 4, 1949 in Ilion. The two shared a blessed union until William's passing on November 23, 1988. Juanita was employed as a Long Distance Operator with NY Bell and later with Verizon for many years. She was a member of the Garden Club, the Telephone Pioneers, and the Ilion Snowdrifters where she served as Past Secretary for 5 years. She was also a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion.
She was a loving, giving and compassionate woman. Juanita's life was centered around her family and her home. Nurturing and gentle by nature, she was a source of guidance and strength to her loved ones. She was a good mother who was always there for her children.
Juanita is survived by her beloved children and their spouses, William Burger of Herkimer, Eric Burger and his wife, Peggy of Ilion, Sharman and her husband Bob Richards of Ilion, Lance Burger and his wife, Leslie of Ilion, Kristina (Tina) Riley of Ilion, Kurt Burger and his wife, Erin of Ilion and Julia and Roger Murray of North Carolina; her 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Hall of FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by one brother, John Smith and one sister, Margie Brewer.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 4:00 pm in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. in Ilion with Deacon James Bower, officiating. Calling hours will take place from 2:00 pm until the time of services in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home. Interment will take place later in the Spring in North Columbia Cemetery in Ilion.
