Kathleen (Kathy) Bowman, 61, of Mohawk, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Abraham House in Utica.
Kathy was born on October 19, 1953 in Herkimer; she was the daughter of the late James and Jean (Martin) Bowman. She was a 1971 graduate of Mohawk Schools; following high school she graduated from the BOCES LPN program. Kathy worked as an LPN in the Herkimer Hospital, then in 1986 she worked for Mohawk Valley Psych. Center and in 1995 until her retirement in 2008 she worked for Central New York DSO.
Kathy was a member of St. Anthony and Joseph's Church in Herkimer, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and served communion. She was also past VP for Catholic Daughters and she enjoyed knitting robes and slippers for shut-ins.
Kathy is survived by her close friends Diane Ritzel and Liz Spellman; a sister Christine Barcz; two nephews Sean and Michael; two great nephews Brody and Alex; her Uncle Jim Martin and family and her faithful companion Sheba.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December 15, 2014 at 9:30 am at St. Anthony and Joseph's Church in Herkimer with Fr. Terence Healy officiating assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in the Mohawk Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on Sunday, December 14, from 4-7 pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion. The Court of St. Bridgett, Catholic Daughters will conduct a prayer service 6:00 PM Sunday evening at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to the Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St., Utica, NY 13501, Hospice and Palliative Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413 or the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 135407; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Kathy's family and friends would like to thank Sue, Mike, Rose and Marlene for all their help during her illness and also a thank you to the staff's at the Abraham House and Hospice for their care, compassion and kindness.
