Ilion, NY - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Earl Russell, Jr, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Larry passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1st, 2025, at the age of 70 at his home, with his family by his side.
Born in the quaint town of Cooperstown, NY, on April 23rd, 1955, Larry spent his formative years in Mohawk, NY, attending Mohawk Schools and proudly graduating with the Class of 1974. He was a son of the late Larry Russell Sr. and Robert and Frances Thayer. His work ethic and dedication were evident in his 35-plus years of service at Union Fork & Hoe in Frankfort, NY, a testament to his commitment and steadfastness. Larry later took on the role as Head of Maintenance for the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, NY, where he shared his expertise and warmth with colleagues and residents alike. He loved hunting, fishing and farming, spending time outdoors.
Larry was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Darlene Marie Entwistle, who passed on September 4, 2015. The two were married on August 8,1981 in Ilion.
A devoted family man, he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter shared with his beloved children, Heather Futrell and her husband, Bill of Cayuga, NY, Larry Russell, III and his companion Nicole Petkovsek of Ilion; his grandchildren, Chloe Marie King-Russell, Madison Russell, Larry Russell IV, Isabella Russell, and Julianna Hence; and his great-grandchildren, Ryder Doris and Bentley Doris. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Tim of Herkimer, Davie of Missouri, Vicky of Canajoharie, NY, and Brenda of Theresa, NY. His presence will be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends and family who were touched by his kindness and wit.
Though he is no longer with us, Larry's spirit and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through those who had the privilege of knowing him. His story, a testament to a life well-lived, will be cherished forever in our hearts.
In keeping with Larry's wishes, there will be no public services. A memorial in his memory will take place at a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. Ilion, NY 13357
