Lucy R. Bates, 86 of Ilion passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Sitrin Health Care in New Hartford.
Lucy was born in the Town of Lennox New York, the daughter of the late Carmello and Angeline (Tizzone) Russo.
She was a graduate of Canastota Schools.
On May 3, 1952 she married Joseph F. Bates in Canastota; he passed away March 16, 2006.
Lucy was devoted to her family and greatly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Church of The Annunciation in Ilion.
Lucy is survived by her five daughters; Diane and her husband John Bigg of Vails Gate, NY, Suzanne and her husband Niels Mortensen of Mohawk, NY, Terry Telesca of Waterford, NY, Kathleen McNamara of Schenectady, NY and Lorrie Godfrey and her companion Pompeo Ferracane of Colonie, NY; six grandchildren Paul, Marisa and Matthew Telesca, Adam McNamara and Christopher and Mark Godfrey.
She was pre deceased by her brothers and sisters; Annie, Frankie, Sadie, Thomas, Celia, Ann, Sam and Estelle.
A Mass of Christian burial for Lucy will be held on Saturday November 23, 2013 at 1pm at The Church of The Annunciation in Ilion; Fr. Leo Potvin will officiate, assisted by Deacon James Bower.
Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10:30am until 12:30pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion.
Friends are asked to consider memorial donation to Ilion Ambulance, The Sitrin Home or Annunciation Church.
