Margaret 'Peg' Sweeney

Margaret "Peg" Sweeney, 87, formerly of Ilion, NY, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014, in Ft. Washington, PA.
Peg was born on November 1, 1926, in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Irving and Margaret Smith Elliott. She is also predeceased by her stepmother, Helena G. Elliott. Peg graduated from high school in Wilmington, DE. She received her bachelor's degree in theater from the University of Mary Washington in VA and her master's degree in library science from Columbia University in NY.
On May 19, 1956, Peg was united in marriage to John H. "Mickie" Sweeney in Wilmington, DE. They moved to Ilion in 1957. Mickie passed away on January 12, 2003.
Peg was a librarian in the Frankfort school system and retired from the West Frankfort Elementary School.
Peg was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ilion, where she served in numerous volunteer capacities. She was a member and past president of the Ilion Garden Club and was active in the Ilion Little Theatre Club, having acted in and directed numerous productions throughout the years.
Peg is survived by her three daughters, a stepdaughter, and their families: Susan and her partner, Vergil Hudson, of Beavercreek, OH; Patricia Dahl and her husband, Chris, and children Connor and Andrew of Wellesley, MA; Christine and her husband, Lewis S. Somers 4th, of Jenkintown, PA; and Rev. Lynn Westover and her husband, Stan, and children Heather and Lauren Stipulkosky. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Lucille Escobar, and by her cousins, Margaret Long and Walter Goodwin, both of Shiloh, NJ, and their families. Peg also leaves her dear friend John Detwiler of Ft. Washington, PA, and his family. She is predeceased by her stepson, Laine Sweeney.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral service for Peg to be held on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 11 AM at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego Street, Ilion, NY 13357.
