Ilion - Mrs. Marian Susan "Sue" Thomas, passed away in the comfort of her home on December 31, 2024, at the age of 90.
Sue was born in Utica on May 4, 1934, a daughter of the late Edward and Marian Prichard McIlwain. She attended UFA, graduating with the class of 1952 and went on to attend Utica College and attended Nursing School at Faxton. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to education as a teacher's aide at Ilion Central School, where she touched the lives of many students with her kindness and patience. Her dedication extended beyond her work, as she was an active member of the Ilion Garden Club, Ilion Historical Club, and Ilion Elks. She was also a proud member of the "FOLA" group, sharing her passions and building lasting friendships. She loved gardening and could often be found nurturing her garden, which was as vibrant and colorful as her personality. She enjoyed traveling and above all, Sue treasured the time spent with her family and close friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever. She spent many years as a child and throughout her adult years at the Cedar Lake Country Club.
She is survived by her devoted children, James and Vicky Thomas of Chippewa Falls, WI; Linda Crossman of Bellbrook, OH, David Thomas and his fiancé Kathy Peterson of Carson City, NV and Bryan Thomas and his fiancé Connie Eddy of Clayville. Her legacy continues through her 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and cherished; one sister, Carol Rehm of Naples, FL; one brother, Bob McIlwain and his wife Jackie of Utica and many special nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Thomas; one brother, Don McIlwain, and her brother-in-law, Frank Rehm.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. in Ilion, with Pastor Betsy Jay, officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of services in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Don at Cedar Lake Cemetery, later in the Spring.
