Mary Ellen Downs

Mary Ellen Downs, 89 of Ilion, passed away on Tuesday October 17, 2017 at Mohawk Valley Health Care, with her family by her side.
Mary was born on November 11, 1927 in Amboy Center, NY.
She was the daughter of the late James and Rosa (Dilwaters) Smart.
Mary worked as a housekeeper at the Mohawk Valley General Hospital until retiring several years ago.
On June 24, 1999 she married James Downs.
Mary is survived by her husband Jim; three step daughters Pamela and Marilyn Downs and Sharon Garofalo; five grandchildren Amanda and Chett Downs, John and Ashley Garofalo and Christopher Latt.
A memorial service for Mary will be held on a date and time to be announced in the Butternut room at Mohawk Valley Health Care 99 Sixth Ave. in Ilion.
Rev. Robert Wollaber will officiate.
Interment will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery.
Mary's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center
for their compassion and care that she has
received during the years that she
resided there.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mary's name may be made to the Ilion Firefighters L-1185, 1 Central Ave. in Ilion.
