Nedda G. Thomes, 68, of 11 Devendorf Street, Mohawk passed away Wednesday February 12, 2014 at St Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.
She was born on September 6, 1945 in Herkimer the daughter of the late George and Annabelle Jacquays Gay and was a graduate of the Mohawk Central School. On October 5, 1963 Nedda was united in marriage to Daniel E. Thomes Sr.in Mohawk. Dan passed away in 2002.
Nedda was employed as a Public Relations Coordinator with Wal-Mart in Herkimer for 12 years.
Nedda's ability to help people through fund raising was her goal in life. She served on the Board of Directors with H.A.L.O in Little Falls, was active in the Children's Miracle Network though Wal-Mart and helped the E.J. Willis Hose Company, Middleville Fire Department with their fund raising while living in Middleville.
Nedda was more than a mom, a wife, a sister, a grandmother, and an aunt. She was everybody's mom, everybody's friend. She was the most positive voice to anyone's question or problem. She was there no matter what, never being judgmental. If you needed her, you knew when you called or stopped, she would welcome you with open arms. Many that stopped, stayed for years, literally.
Nedda is survived by a daughter and son in law Annemarie and Andrew Dutcher of Mohawk, two sons D.J. and Bob both of Herkimer, who will miss her each and every day beyond words. She also leaves two brothers Butch Gay of Pleasant Lake, and Dick Gay of Ilion, a grandson Colton, also several nieces and nephews whom she adored. She will also be missed by her cat Princess and her grand dogs Nikki and Kodi.
She was predeceased by brothers Jerry, Chuck and Bill and sisters Regina, Annie and Dorothy.
In keeping with Nedda's wishes the funeral service will be private and at the convenience of her family.
