Nelson P. Johnson Sr.

Mohawk - Nelson P. Johnson, Sr. passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer, NY, with his loving children by his side. Born on August 22, 1941, in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Florence and Mark (Barlow) Johnson.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Nelson served in Germany, bringing honor to his country and family. His professional life was marked by a successful career as an electrician with the Remington Arms Co., where his dedication and skill were highly regarded.
Nelson was happily married to the late Joyce M. Johnson, sharing a blessed union that spanned over four decades. He was a community-minded individual, actively involved with the Friends of the Town Park of German Flatts and the United Mine Workers of America.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Johnson, one sister, Donna Jablowski, one brother, Lester Johnson and one brother in law, Robert Brown, Nelson is survived by his loving children, Nelson Johnson, Jr. (Tammy), Patrick Farley, Sandra Wentworth (Dick), Jaclyn Ann Johnson, and Sandra Wentworth; brothers, Gary and Gene Johnson; sisters Diane Younes (Carl) and Dawn Brown; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
A celebration of Nelson's life will take place with full military honors at the Adirondack Cemetery on Johnson Road in Adirondack, NY, on June 28, 2024 at 1:00 PM. His life of service and devotion will be forever cherished and remembered.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St., Ilion, NY 13357.
