Richard Warren Rankins

Mohawk - Mr. Richard Warren Rankins, 95, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024 at his home in Mohawk.
Richard was born on October 16, 1928 in Mohawk, the son of the late Frederick R. and Blanch L. Woodford Rankins. He attended and graduated from Mohawk Schools with the class of 1946. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country from 1950 until his Honorable Discharge in 1952. He was Military Police for the 521st service company. He was married to Dorothy Louise Vandawalker on April 10, 1954. He was employed as a Manager with Kelly Lumber Co. in Mohawk for many years. He was at one time the President of Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Little Falls and was a life contributor to all Veterans causes.
Richard is survived by one son and daughter in law, Douglas and Susan Rankins; one brother, Walter Rankins; his beloved grandchildren, Samantha Gugenberger and her husband, James, Alyssa Cerini and Joshua Cerini; his great-grandchildren, Gianna Scherer, Lillibeth Gugenberger, James Gugenberger and Blake Scherer; sisters in law, Mary Rankins, Wilma Rankins, Peggy Pinkham and Penny Rankins and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Rankins; brothers, Bill Rankins, Edwin (Ted) Rankins, David Rankins, Ernest (Ernie) Rankins and Ivan Rankins; one nephew, Ivan Rankins, Jr.; sisters in law, June Rankins and Nioga Rankins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 12:00 pm in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. Ilion, NY 13357, with Pastor Joelle Faulks, officiating. Calling hours will take place on Saturday, January 13th from 10:00 am until the time of services in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. Ilion, NY 13357. Interment will take place in the Spring in Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Little Falls.
