Richard (Dick) Smithson, 74, of Ilion, passed away November 19, 2012.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara Smithson.
Beloved husband, father, Papa and friend.
Richard was born October 8, 1938, the son of the late Virginia and Arthur Smithson, brother of the late James Emrich and survived by his brothers, Robert & (Jane) Smithson, Ronald & (Ann) Smithson and sister Maryann & (Bernie) Jory.
Richard is survived by his
four beloved children, Sallie Murphy, Jeff & (Julie) Smithson, Sharon & (Bart) DeLuca, Barbie & (James) Bruce; seven grandchildren, Tara, Ryan, Regan, Jami, Courtney, Hannah and Samantha;
five great grandchildren, Devyn, Baily, Ethan, Addisyn, and Grant.
Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father and mother in- law Melvin and Helen Wilcox.
Survived by brother and sister-in-law John (Jack) & Donna Wilcox and family.
There have been many special friends in his life including Linda & Eric Gaskins, Betty & Bill Ingerham, Charlene & Bill Gaffney, Jack & Carol Noll, Bill Dack, Gen & Joe Geloso, Ray Bush & Family, Ann Jess, Vinnie Urtz and many more.
Richard was employed at Univac where he received certification as a supervisor and also worked at MDS (Momentum).
A memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion, Fr. Leo Potvin will officiate.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11am until the time of the service.
The Ilion Knights of Columbus will hold their ritualistic service at noon at the funeral home.
