Ilion
Robert Whitcomb Moore II, 90, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown. Bob was born September 14, 1925 in Paoli, PA, the son of the late Henry Dyer Moore II and Lois Wright Moore.
Bob served as a pilot with the Army-Air Corps during WWII. On June 2, 1951 he was united in marriage with Phoebe Desmond in West Chester, PA.
Bob then attended and graduated from Babson College in Wellesly Hills, MA. Bob and Phoebe moved to Ilion in 1953 where they raised their family.
Bob retired from Remington Arms in 1983 after working for 30 years in the accounting/finance and personnel departments.
Bob was a member of the Ilion First Methodist Church (Morning Star Ministries) and served as treasurer for over 50 years.
In the early 1960's he enjoyed couching his sons in the Ilion Little League and also served as its president.
Bob was an avid bowler and golfer and also played softball on the Remington Arms team. Bob spent many hours coaching while refereeing his favorite Philadelphia sports teams as well as the Nittany Lions.
He was very proud of his Pennsylvania connection.
Bob and Phoebe enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Bob is survived by his wife, three sons and daughters in law; Thomas Desmond and Minda of Buffalo, WY, Robert W. III and Evelyn of Durham, NH, and Charles Martel and Sandra Moore of Ilion and by his daughter Phoebe Chipman Moore of Ilion.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Thomas, Melissa Ann, Kristen, Katherine, Tiffany, Charles Moore Jr., Angela Jacopelle and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his five siblings.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Ilion First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. A continuation of the celebration of Bob's life will follow in the church dining area.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider memorials to the Morning Star Ministries Ilion Church or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at church or the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St. Ilion.
