Robert 'Bebo' Brien

Robert Walter Brien (Age 82) of Ilion, NY passed away on December 4, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford after a long illness.
Bob was born on December 25, 1933 in Cold Spring, NY to Robert Wales and Anna (Burns) Brien.
He went to school in Hawthorne before moving to Mohawk where he graduated from Mohawk High School in 1952.
He graduated from Oswego State University in 1956 and was a member of the Sigma Gamma Fraternity.
He was a 7-8th grade teacher in Ilion for two years before moving to the Whitesboro School District where he taught 6th grade for 30 years, retiring in 1990.
An avid athlete, Bob played basketball, baseball, and volleyball in high school and college.
He coached basketball and football for the Mohawk Central School District.
He enjoyed bowling, golf, and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church.
He enjoyed music and sang in the Blessed Sacrament and Bicentennial choirs.
He was a member of the Herkimer Elks and Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his children:
Colleen (Jeffrey) Freeman of Oakdale, CA, Gale (Steven) Shust of Rochester, NY, Robert Brien of Albany, NY and Tim (Amy) Brien of Ilion, NY; his grandchildren:
Nicolas Freeman, Kimberly and Rebecca Shust, and Pacey and Halana Brien; his brother:
Donald (Phyllis) Brien; his sisters: Irene Brien and Diana (Mel) Kubecka; his companion:
Hilda Paddock, and several nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law:
Peg and Bill Loomis.
Calling hours will be from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego Street, Ilion, NY.
The Herkimer Elks will be performing a memorial ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk at noon on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.
Sister Mary Jo Tallman, CSJ, Parish Life Director and Very Rev. Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister will preside.
Private interment will be in Cherry Valley Cemetery.
