It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Earl Bulson, a lifelong resident of Ilion, New York. Robert passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the age of 92, at MVHS Wynn Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born on March 16, 1933, in East Syracuse, New York, Robert was the son of the late Clifford and Edna Bulson. Raised with strong values and a steadfast character, he was a proud graduate of Utica College, where he laid the foundation for a long and respected career in public service.
On October 10, 1953, Robert was united in marriage to Sylvia Reed at the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. A blessed union they shared for over 71 years. Their life together was one of deep love, mutual respect, and unwavering devotion to family.
Robert proudly served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Rich (DDE 820), where he demonstrated the honor and dedication that would remain hallmarks of his life. After his military service, he continued to serve others as a Tax Auditor for the State of New York in Utica, earning the respect of colleagues for his meticulous work and integrity.
He was also an active and proud member of his community. Robert served with the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department and was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Church of the Annunciation, where he was a devoted communicant.
Robert cherished time with his family above all else. He loved summers at his camp on Caroga Lake and winters in Florida, where he found joy and peace surrounded by those he loved. An avid reader and lifelong learner, Robert also had a great passion for golf. One of his favorite traditions was the annual family golf tournament, lovingly known as the Bulson Open, held at Caroga Lake, which brought generations of family together in fun and fellowship.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia Bulson; his loving children, Robin Reardon and her husband Stephen of Bradenton, Florida; Michele Conigliaro and her husband Paul of Huntersville, North Carolina; and Patricia Johnson of Ilion. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Brooke, Kelsey, Leanne, Lauren, Ben, and Audrey, as well as his great-grandson, George. Robert is survived by his sister, Mary Scheel, and his sister-in-law, Margaret Bulson, his brother-in-law Michael Day, along with several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his son, Timothy Bulson; his brother, Richard Bulson; his sisters, Kathleen Bulson Fuller and her husband Donald, and Charleen Day; and his brother-in-law, Edward Scheel.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home in Ilion, who are honored to assist the Bulson family during this time of remembrance.
Robert will be dearly missed, but the love he shared and the values he lived by will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
