ENDICOTT - Robert A. Schneider, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away Wednesday morning, July 8th 2026 at Mercy House in Endicott, New York.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Zizio) Schneider, his son David Schneider and daughter-in-law Anne (Gordon) Schneider and their children Max and Alex, his daughter Andrea Schneider and son-in-law Michael Shephard, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved.

Robert was a graduate of Ilion High School where he excelled at football and wrestling. At Cornell University he earned a Bachelor's of Industrial and Operations Engineering. While at the University he was the steward for Lambda Chi Alpha where he enjoyed planning dinners and events. He often enjoyed singing the songs from his fraternity and the university with gusto. He earned a Master's Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. He was told by his IBM manger he was too valuable to promote as a result.

He began his career working for Dupont optimizing processes at the Remington Arms. Later, he became employed at General Electric Aerospace Defense where he met Carol, his co-worker; they were quite a team. He spoke about how much he loved being a computer programmer and the fun he had helping to shape and write the rules of the then emerging field. His last job was working for VM platform at IBM where he enjoyed helping solve problems from clients around the world. For him it was never work; it was an intricate puzzle to solve.

Robert was an enthusiastic storyteller and loved recalling adventures, family history, exploits with his children, and favorite lifetime memories. He was a Cub Master, Scout Master, and soccer coach for many years. He was a very knowledgeable and active outdoorsman who loved to teach what he knew. He could be often found hiking, biking, canoeing, and camping with his family. To top it off, he was an avid reader with a wide variety of interests.

Robert was a very generous and respectful person to everyone he met. He was willing to help out any person or cause that needed him. Some of his favorite activities were family dinners and game nights.

Robert and his family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of 5 West at Roswell Comprehensive Cancer Center for the care and kindness they showed him as be battled his leukemia for the past 4 months. They would also like to thank Mercy House of Endicott for making his passing as painless as possible.
