Robert Lewis Smaldone

Ilion - Mr. Robert Lewis Smaldone, Sr., age 75, of Ilion, passed away on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024 in Little Falls Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Robert was born on June 28, 1949 in Ilion to the late Lewis Grant and Edith Irene Mower Smaldone. He attended and graduated from Ilion Schools. He served his country in the US Army. He was married to Liz Davy on May 20, 2017 in Herkimer, NY.
He was a paratrooper in the United States Army and was very proud to serve his country. He also loved spending time fishing at Basswood Pond and Hinckley Lake with his stepson, Bill. He also leaves a special fishing buddy, Paul Roberts of Ilion. Bob was an avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed going to NYC for the games and loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Robert was a dedicated employee of Bernie Bus Service in Herkimer where he was employed as a bus monitor for many years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Liz of Ilion; his children, Tanya (David) George of Little Falls, NY and Robert (Allison) Smaldone of Holly Springs, NC; step-children, Linda (Edward) Bracken of Ilion, NY and Bill (Cassandra) Eaton of Ilion, NY. He leaves his favorite sister-in-law, Alberta Davy of Ilion. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Grant (Skip) Smaldone.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 1pm - 7 pm at John Guy Prindle Apartments community room located at 80 E. North St. Ilion, NY 13357. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. Ilion, NY 13357.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
