Herkimer - Mrs. Shirley Ann (O'Driscoll) Gettle, 86, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.

She was born on August 11, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late William O'Driscoll and Ruby Rockwell O'Driscoll Osen, and her husband, Anton Osen Sr. She was raised in Albany, and later relocated to Ilion. A woman of strong faith, Shirley was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Ilion, where she cherished her time in fellowship and service to the community. She worked for many years as a Waitress at Dandy Donuts in Herkimer, where she built lifelong friendships and brought joy to her customers and coworkers alike. Her dedication to her work and the people around her left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Shirley loved to play bingo and loved to play at the casino. She loved to go fishing and loved her yard sales. She also loved coloring, word search and crossword puzzles and did her last crossword puzzle the night before she passed away.

Shirley is survived by her beloved children, Helen V. Hutchinson, Deborah R. Haire, Philip C. Gettle and Michele M. Conard; 2 sisters, Dorothy Mosher and Judith Cossey Brentz and one brother, Anton Osen, Jr. She had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, George E. Gettle, Jr. in April of 2015.

In keeping with Shirley's wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held in Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion at a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. Ilion, NY 13357.
