Shirley J. LaValley, 82, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born in Malone, NY on June 8, 1935 the daughter of the late Raymond and Laura Disotelle. Shirley was educated in Malone and was a graduate of Ilion High. On September 28, 1957 she was united in marriage with Bernard LaValley in The Church of The Annunciation, Ilion.
Shirley was employed as a switchboard operator at Herkimer County Community College retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Annunciation Church, a life member and past president of the Ilion K of C Auxiliary, a member of the Herkimer Sr. Citizens, the Sr. Ladies Bowling League and a lifelong avid bowler. Shirley loved spending time at her camp of 42 years at Piseco Lake and enjoyed cooking, baking, ceramics, music, dancing, crafts and her garden and flowers.
Shirley is survived by a daughter and son in law Beth and John Brant of Mohawk, a son Steven and his fianc Tamara Heiland of E. Herkimer, two sisters and a brother in law Esther Viparina and Linda and Allen Edick all of Ilion. She is also survived by three grandchildren Brian Brant and his wife Jessica, Christopher Brant and Jennifer LaValley, two great grandchildren Frankie Ruthford and Hunter Pardee, her sister in law Florence Disotelle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Bernard, daughter Karen and brother Gordon.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion with Deacon James Bower officiating, interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-6 PM at the funeral home.
Shirley's family would like to thank the staff and activities department at Valley Health for the excellent care she received.
Friends are asked to consider memorials to the Alzheimer's Association in Shirley's memory, envelopes will be available at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home.
