Ilion - Mrs. Vernie Priscilla Reid, 81, of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10th, 2025 at the Wynn Hospital, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on Friday, December 24th, 1943, in Binghamton, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Dorcas E. Brewster Perkins.
Vernie attended Frankfort-Schuyler Schools. She devoted her professional life to serving others as a Home Health Aide with Herkimer County Public Health for many years, until her retirement in 2005. Her unwavering dedication to her work touched countless lives and provided comfort and support to many families in her community. Following her retirement, she devoted countless hours serving the ministries of Hope Alliance Church.
Family was Vernie's greatest joy and her most valued priority. She is survived by her beloved husband, David Reid of Ilion; her loving children, Jennifer & Joseph Halligan of Cobourg, Ontario, Canada, Alan & Lindsey Reid of Sparks, GA, Tamara & Charles Poirier of Messina, NY, Joseph & Nassima Reid of Arlington, VA, and James & Jodi Reid of Schuyler, NY. She was a proud grandmother to Colleen, Justine & Cody, Ethan & Jordan, Gene & Joshua, Alexander, Hannah, Molly, Madelyne & Benjamin, and a doting great-grandmother to Oliver, Alice, Max, Eve, Elena, David, Theodore, and one eagerly awaited great-grandchild.
Vernie's life was filled with the love and warmth of her family, whose bond was woven with countless cherished memories. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to family serves as an inspiration to all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on August 11th at a time to be announced at Hope Alliance Church, 4291 Middle Settlement Rd. New Hartford, NY 13413. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home. Vernie will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. Her loving spirit and dedication to those she held dear will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
