Victoria 'Vickie' Kane

Victoria (Vickie) Kane, 90, passed away Saturday, April11, 2015 at the Sitrin Heath Care Center, New Hartford,NY. Vickie was born
the daughter of the late Bronislaw and Kazmira Janiezowski
Pogonowski. She attended school in Poland, NY, graduating as Salutatorian of her class. She then graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing class of 1947. She was united in marriage with George Kane on November 11, 1950. He passed away August 13, 1993. Vickie was employed at Herkimer Hospital and then at Mohawk Valley General Hospital as a maternity nurse until retiring in 1983.
Vickie was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk, a member of the Catholic Daughters, Lucy Kellogg Relief Society, and A.A.R.P, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
Vickie is survived by two daughters and their husbands Cynthia and Kevin Sears of Ilion and Mary and
Sam Celia of Whitesboro, her son Daniel Kane of Ilion, eight grandchildren: Craig
and Laura Sears, Jason and Daniel Kane, Brent Turner, and Nicolette, Samuel, and Alexandria Celia. She is also survived by a brother and sister in law Wally and Alice Pogonowski of Poland, NY, three sisters and three brothers in law, Zenonia Zieniewicz of Ilion, Larry Cook, of
Newport,
Irene and David Bouck of Schuyler and Natalie and Francis Rickard of Prospect, NY,
three sisters in law, Barbara Chase of Mohawk, Rosemary Kane of Mohawk, and Lois Thompson of Sydney, NY.
Vickie was predeceased by her sisters Amelia
Pogonowski and Jane Cook, and her brother Benjamin Pogonowski, by her brother and sister in law, Ronnie and Sylvia Pogonowski, and her sister and brother in law, Loretta and Ward Rommel, and by her sisters and brothers in law Helen and Donald Davidson, Catherine and Steve O'Bryan, and her brothers in law Morris Kane, Jim Chase, Ken Thompson,
and Florian Zieniewicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 12 noon in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, NY with Fr. Leo Potvin officiating assisted by Sr. Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Interment will take place at a later time in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In keeping with Vickie's wishes there are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion.
Friends are asked to consider memorials to Blessed Sacrament Church or the Alzhimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home or Blessed Sacrament Church the day of the mass.
