William A. 'Bill' Slocum

William A. Slocum, 87, passed away at home on Friday, November 29, 2013.
Bill was born November 8, 1926 in Springfield, MA. the son of the late Ransom and Katherine Deyle Slocum. He was a graduate of Ilion High School, attended MVCC and served with the Army-Air Corps during WW2. On October 16, 1945 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Fay. Bill retired in 1975 as the Director of Manufacturing for M.D.S. also having worked for Sperry Rand and UNIVAC prior to that.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, of 68 years, a daughter and son in law Margaret and Charles Haggerty of Herkimer, a son and daughter in law Allan and Karen Slocum of Wake Forest, NC, his sisters Audrey Sorenson and Patricia Esford both of Ilion, 8 grandchildren Michele Slocum, Ami and Dan Leventry, Alexis Ripley-Slocum, Derek Brewer, Devon and Richard Rappa, Chas Haggerty, Cory Haggerty and Caitlin Haggerty, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his very close friends Arnie and Marilyn Riggs. He was predeceased by a grandson Beau Allen Ripley.
An avid sportsman, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, bowling and golf. He played many rounds of golf at Alder Creek Golf Club, Cedar Lake Country Club and most recently at Maplecrest Golf Course. Bill was a skilled craftsman building their home at Kayuta Lake where they lived several years before relocating in Belleview, Fl.
Bill's memorial service will be held Wednesday at 6:00 PM from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion, with the Rev. John Bassett officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-6 PM
until the time of the service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Bill's family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care, Drs. Tomy, Sikder, Cutry and their staffs for all the caring and supportive attention they gave.
