Mohawk
William D. Wainwright, 87, passed away Sunday November 30, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. Bill was born in Mohawk on February 27, 1927 son of the late Llewellyn and Marion Buckley Wainwright. He graduated from Mohawk High School in 1945, served with the NAVY SEA-BEES in the South Pacific at the end of World War II, and also attended Brockport State.
Bill was employed by the Mohawk Municipal Commission for thirty three years serving first as Lineman, and later as Superintendent
until his retirement in 1985. He served as German Flatts Town Justice from1982 to1987, Fire Chief from 1962 to 1963, Fire Warden and was a past member of The Town of German Flatts Board of Assessment. He was a member of Alexander Hose Co., Mohawk Volunteer Fire Dept., the Mohawk Exempt Firemen, Crowley-Barnum Post 128 American Legion and RSVP.
Bill was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk.
Bill is survived by his loving wife,June, of 64 years, four sons and daughters in law, Bill and Monica of Little Falls, Mike and Sharie of Herkimer, Tim and Sue Ellen of Mohawk, Sean and Deb of Frankfort, three daughters and two sons in law Karen McGuire of Cranston, RI., Sharon and Tom Petkovsek of Mohawk, and Tricia and Ron Lamanna of E. Herkimer and a brother Bob Wainwright of Scotia, NY.
Bill is also survived by 19 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and special lifetime friends Dorothy Hilts of Bend, Oregon, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gloo of Mohawk. He was predeceased by his brothers Maurice and Donald, and a son Robert Allen Wainwright.
Bill's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk on Thursday December 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Mark Cunningham Officiating assisted by Sr. Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director., Interment will take place in the Mohawk Cemetery. Friends may call on the family Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St., Ilion.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider memorials to Boys Town USA and the Alexander Hose Company, 28 Columbia Street, Mohawk, New York 13407, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
