Ilion
William Wiernicki, 83, of 41 Marshall Ave. in Ilion, passed away on Sunday December 20, 2009 at St. Elizabeth's medical Center in Utica.
Bill was born on April 10, 1926 in Little Falls, the son of the late Henry and Maria (Florek) Wiernicki.
He was educated in Mohawk and also attended Tech schools for UNIVAC, where he was employed as a computer engineer, until retiring in 1976.
Bill also worked as a computer maintenance tech for Dunlop. He did consulting work for Dunlop as well as several other odd jobs after he retired.
In 1949 Bill married the former Audrey Preische in Ilion, Audrey passed away in 2001.
Bill was a WWII Army veteran; he was a member of Ilion First United Methodist Church and was active in church affairs.
Bill was a member of F&AM Olive Branch Lodge 40.He was a Past Patron of the Evening Star Valley Chapter 82 of OES and was an avid bowler who also enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Bill is survived by a son Matthew Wiernicki, two daughters Dianne and her husband Ronald Reed, and Sheila and her husband Edward Gahan all of Ilion, three brothers Zygmunt and his wife Fran of Marcy, Vincent of Vestal and Witold and his wife Ellen of Mohawk.
He also leaves his 5 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
As well as special friends Sherry Baylis and Joanne Jones, He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Sophie, Stanley, Mitchell and Henry.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Wednesday December 23, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion.
Reverend Robert Wollaber will officiate and interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday December 22, 2009 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
The Evening Star Valley Chapter 82 OES and Olive Branch Lodge 40 will conduct ritual services starting at 6 pm Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to either the Ilion First United Methodist Church or the Ilion Library.
Envelops will be available at the funeral home.
